# 248 Along the Rio Grande

Pilar and Embudo are two towns situated close the Rio Grande, they are mostly arts and crafts folks living there, but it is a great spot to put-in or take-out your canoe, kayak, inflatable, etc. The walls of the canyon are so steep, there are only a few places this can be done. Oil 12.00" x 17.00" $600. j@jonconkley.com

# 247 Changing Colors

Just before the first snow, these were the colors going into early winter. Oil 13.00" x 19.00" $600. j@jonconkey.com

# 249 Encinal Canyon with Snow

This is from the last snow, we're now getting dumped on again. I was snowed in for 8 days from the last storm. I knew I had signed up for this type of thing moving here, that is why I stuff the pantry like a woodchuk when the weather is nice. Oil 12.00" x 17.00" $450.  j@jonconkey.com

# 244 Canoncito Meadow in Fall

This place is an endless source of paintings for the plein air painter, though right now I cannot get there because the roads are too "sketchy" from the snow. Email jon@jonconkey.com for purchase info.

# 243 After Glow

A valley town off the "high road" in the mountains of New Mexico after sunset. I think this town is Llano, but I am not sure, there are so many hamlet style towns they are hard to keep straight. Oil 12.00" x 18.00" email jon@jonconkey.com for purchase info.

# 242 A Poor Woman

This homeless woman made me think how lucky I am to be able to live month to month as an artist, it seems so many are just one step away from a similiar situation. Oil 8.00" x 12.00" email jon@jonconkey.com for purchase info.

# 235 Irish Girl with Hat

Here is a portrait using the darkness of the background to pop it out, the greenish color of the hat is to counter the hair color, and the bright grass green is there to counter the lip color. Oil 9.00" 13.00" email jon@jonconkey,com for purchase info.

# 231 Evening Colours

Here is a favorite spot of mine near Ocate, NM. With the month near half over, I need to think about doing some night scenes (this month's theme), the night skies have been fairly dark and nothing has jumped out at me to paint. This morning however, I awoke at 3:30am and watched the thin cresent moon rise over the horizon soon followed by the sun and her pink and red storm sky. I realized that the morning has everything and more than I had ever imagined. Oil 6.00" x 8.00" email jon@jonconkey.com to buy.

# 230 Colusa Sunflowers

Another sunflower field from earlier this year, I painted two of these to try and learn how to paint this endless field of flowers quickly, I learned much from the effort. Oil 7.50" x 10.25" email jon@jonconkey.com to buy.

# 229 Arabian Stallion

Horses are very common in the northern New Mexico mountains, some have become farrel, escaping from their owners, they head towards the heavily forested mountains for their escape and new freedom. We have noticed that these escaped horses band together with other wild horses and become physically very strong from traversing the high altitude mountains. Oil 9.00" x 14.00" email jon@jonconkey.com to buy.

# 228 Dark Horse

This was an experiment in trying to capture the edge of night, and still keep some detail on the subject using a fire's glow for the light source. I did this painting back in June and hesitated blogging it because of my being all over the page with experiments, having no real recognizable style of my own, and it didn't fit that month's theme: I now realize that is why I started this blog; namely, to experiment. So here it is, along with a few others that escaped being blogged, they now have their day: this blog contains both my victories and defeats in my quest to paint one a day. Oil 9.00" x 13.00" email jon@jonconkey.com to buy.

# 225 Coyote Creek

The Mora River is more creek than river, though it flows year round and is always subject to paint. Larger paintings allow so much more detail, they always look good shrunken down to this size. This is a larger size painting for me and was done earlier this year. Oil on linen 20.00" x 30.00" email jon@jonconkey.com to buy.

# 222 Night Tracks

Big fluffy snow in New Mexico... here today gone tomorrow is generally the rule where I live, but the temperatures have stayed just low enough to cause it to stick around. Add the near full moon to the equation, and this is what you get at night. Oil on reversed masonite, 14.00" x 18.00" email jon@jonconkey.com
to buy.

# 219 Remington's Stage

December's theme was going to be night scenes, but cloud cover has kept that from actually happening, therefore, I will put this idea into use another month, using this month to capture some snow scenes as they come available to me. This image is after Remington's Stage Coach, it was this image that first inspired me to start doing night scenes as a practice. Oil 10.00" x 15.00" email jon@jonconkey.com to buy.
